What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?

Please see the description above for most of the details. In addition to those details, the home has never had chemicals in it. It is cleaned with chemically free products. The home is entirely electric so there is no gas or wood being burned. Only one chemically sensitive person has occupied this home since it was built.

Property Description

This very well built home is specifically designed and restricted to the EI (environmentally ill) or the MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity). The property is surrounded by chemically sensitive neighbors. This home has ceramic tile floors throughout and Alder hardwood kitchen cabinets. The home was painted with a low VOC paint. Heating the home is accomplished with ceramic radiant heaters placed in the corners of the ceilings, and cooled with ceiling fans or open windows. Each window has exterior roll up shutters. There are several other rooms for an office/den, etc. The home is protected from the wind and weather by an eight foot high block wall on 3+ sides. There are gardens, a clothes hanger, two storage sheds, an insulated building holding a 1000 gal water tank and a water pressure tank, a root cellar and a tool shed with a 4000 watt generator for back up electricity, all within this block wall. Through a gate in this wall there is access to a large chain link fenced area for pets. There is also a car port with doors concealing a single vehicle. The entire property is fenced and gated and has outstanding views of the White Mountains. The driveway is graveled and circular with a very nicely landscaped rock interior. Electricity is brought into the home and surrounding homes underground. The home is served by a private well and a septic system. This is a very safe home for the chemically sensitive. Owner is willing to rent to a prospective buyer in order to determine compatibility.

Neighborhood Description

The neighborhood is located east of Snowflake AZ, and a little north. It is about a 10 to 15 minute drive to Main Street, which is Hwy 77 between Show Low and Holbrook. Most of the community is EI (Environmentally ill) or MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity). The neighbors that are not chemically sensitive live very respectively, knowing the difficulties faced in the community. The area has very few trees, but great views of the White Mountains. This area is over one of the largest aquifers in South West United States, called the Coconino, which is a valuable resource. This area is nationally known as a safe environment for the EI or MCS community.

Market Area

Snowflake is a small town in NE Arizona, on the edge of an area known as the White Mountains. The climate is very moderate, with an elevation of 5650 feet above sea level, considered a high desert. Snowflake does get snow, but it gets its name from two Mormon family settlers, the Snows and the Flakes. The winters are mild; it is common for the temps to reach into the 50’s and sometimes even into the 60’s. Temperatures can reach 0 degrees on a cold winter night and 100 degrees on a hot summer day. Summers are cooled down by the monsoons that typically move in around mid July through late August. Snowflake is centrally located between Phoenix and Albuquerque. There is snow skiing and cross country skiing within an hour as well as an abundance of National Forest for biking, hiking, camping, boating and fishing. Roping and rodeo are also very popular. The area is rich in Native Cultures such as Navajo, Apache, Hopi, and Zuni. The natural vegetation is the Juniper Tree, with the tall Ponderosa Pine nearby. The growing season is long and all kinds of fruits and vegetables can be grown. There is quite a concentration of environmentally minded people in the White Mountain area, and Farmers Markets help supply the ample organic fruits and vegetables grown locally.
