This home was built in 2006 by a previous San Diego city building inspector. It was one of the first straw bales in the county, designed by Hubbell & Hubbell architects. The house has some finish details that are not complete but could easily be done in a week or two. It is completely off-grid and has a well, photovoltaic, propane and a beautiful soapstone wood-burning stove. It has stained concrete floors and natural clay walls on much of the interior. It has an indoor-outdoor shower and a loft that is currently used as a second bedroom. The view is beautiful with great views visible from most all of the open floor plan. It has a metal roof and 800 square foot balcony. Stunning cedar trim. There are hiking trails and peaceful roads for miles and miles even though it is only 60 miles from San Diego. It is 5 miles from Lake Cuyamaca. This area was burned during the 2003 fire, which is when the property was purchased. It has recovered miraculously, with Manzanita, baby Pines, and Oaks covering the property. It does require a 4-wheel drive to get to the house unless you walk down a 150 foot path.

Neighborhood Description

It is in a remote and gorgeous area bordered by Cuyamaca State Park and Cleveland National Forest at approximately 4000 ft elevation. It borders on an off-grid Indian Reservation with little likelihood of development. There are 13 2.5 acre lots on the hill where the house is located but only one is under development due to the remote location and difficulty of building.
