An Off-the-Grid Solar-Electric home (1,050 sq. ft. plus full basement) on 6.6 acres of land in Washington, Maine. Built in 2006, the property includes an insulated studio/shop (480sqft & loft) with an attached greenhouse and henhouse, rustic year-round cabin, and a root cellar. All buildings have a simple passive-solar design, and the house is heated with 1 to 2 cords of firewood, with backup propane heater while on vacation. The property is situated on a peninsula on a 10-acre beaver pond, suitable for canoeing and ice skating. One acre is cleared and land is surrounded by 500 acres of wilderness. Grounds include raised garden beds, perennials, herb beds, wild blueberries, and enough sugar maples for small scale sugaring (we make 1 gallon of syrup each spring)!
