What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?

Concrete and sealed plaster, quality latex paint, and minimal use of petroleum based finishes. The home has been tested free of radon. The woodstove obtains its combustion air directly from the outside, not from the living space. Even the propane cook stove has a custom gas valve that allows you to turn the pilot off so there are no combustion gases when it is not in use. Being partially underground, the temperature is most stable. The solid construction affords quiet comfort and peace of mind.

Property Description

I built this home for maximum comfort and minimum maintenance. The open and angled floor plan utilizes space efficiently and feels much larger than it is. There is lots of closet space and a loft area not included in the reported square footage. The ceiling of the main dome curves from 8 feet to 13 ½ feet and has a 6 foot skylight 17 ½ feet above the floor. There are two large garages. The attached 600 sq ft concrete dome garage workshop remains comfortable all year around and could be converted to living space. Yet, it is so nice to have your vehicle warm and easy to start in the winter, a large workshop where the leftover paint will never freeze, and a cool stable storage area for your wine collection.\r\n\r\nThe house is extremely energy efficient, partially underground, and shaded by a passive-solar-calculated overhang to the south (which walks out at grade). The house has never gotten hotter than 75 degrees in the summer even when the outdoor temperature is over 100. In the winter, I was away for a week in the coldest sub-zero weather we have had in a decade and the house never dropped below 56 degrees with no heat! You will never have to worry about frozen water pipes. Though the building department required backup electric heat, a Lopi glass front and externally ventilated wood stove provides all the beautiful and even heat you will ever need. There is an endless supply of firewood on the property. Even if the stove burns out overnight, the house won’t drop more than a few degrees. It is easy to keep the house as warm as you like--a most comfortable living and sleeping environment.\r\n\r\nIn addition to the pictures featured here, you can access my web site with many more. This is a “turnkey” property with all the features and accessories you might need to live comfortably and maintain the property. A detached 600 square foot garage has another workshop and storage for a John Deere 770 tractor with blade, mower, snow blower, and wood chipper. In addition to solar panels, there is a high-quality, quiet, and fully automated Honda generator for electricity backup. A large Generac generator periodically pumps water from a reliable 600’ well into a 1500 gallon cistern. There is telephone service and high speed internet. Yet, grid power runs to the neighbor’s house and could be tapped into if you wanted.\r\n\r\nQuality features include: \r\n\r\n- Low-maintenance insulated synthetic stucco exterior.\r\n- Interior plaster, drywall, and natural pine and birch trim. \r\n- Carefree Pergo floor. \r\n- Solid birch cabinets.\r\n- New tile and jade mosaic countertops with epoxy grout.\r\n- Lopi Patriot wood stove with direct external air supply.\r\n- Trace sine wave inverter.\r\n- Vestfrost refridgerator/freezer.\r\n- Fridgidaire front loading washer and gas dryer.\r\n- Myson instant-on water heater.\r\n- 7 x 16 screen and glass “gazebo” with redwood floor and stunning views.
