What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?
The main house was built by and for a chemically sensitive person who was also sensitive to electromagnetic fields. The house features slate or tile floors, BioShield paints, and AFM stains and sealers. Foil-lined insulation within the walls of the main house provides a barrier to outgassing chemicals and a buffer for most against electromagnetic fields. Water comes from a well shared with three other properties. Holding tanks are stainless steel and zinc-coated. Only less toxic Seventh Generation Free and Clear cleaning products have been used in the house.Property Description
The house faces southwest on seven acres of a downhill slope in the Sangre de Cristo mountains about 10 miles southeast of Santa Fe, NM. There is no local industry or agriculture, and the house is one mile from and 800 feet above regular vehicular traffic. A 4WD vehicle with snow tires is required from November through April. Snow is ploughed and scoria spread by the community association within 24 hours of an obstructive snowfall. The site is magnificent with views to the south and west of up to 100 miles. Because of the very low humidity, air conditioning is not necessary. All of the renovations by the present owners have featured non-toxic materials sold by or recommended by the American Environmental Health Foundation or have been listed in Prescriptions for a Healthy House.
