What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?

Floors are R30, walls approach R40, ceiling R70. Blower door test 2.38 but know that simple steps can be taken to make this lower. All electric but it also has a wood stove that could be used for primary or supplemental heating. All LED lighting except for florescent in mechanical room. Virtually no lighting needed during the day. PV inverter has option to create power off grid after storm (very rarely does power go out). One low utility bill for electric. No LP. This home is a future-built home. In other words, it needs no adaptation for future needs as aging occurs. It is also very convenient for the young with no steps to climb throughout the entire house and immediate exterior from driveway to front entry, garage, or porch.


Neighborhood Description

This is the second house of a 5-house sustainable development located on a farm. The farm and development is surrounded by rural neighbors, some who farm, some are residential. The development includes 30+ acres of pasture for grassfed sheep and goats. The pasture is accessible to all residents for hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing. The area of the pasture viewed on the south side of the house is a beautiful prairie area with lupine, followed by spiderwort, and yellow coneflower.


Market Area

Waupaca is a city of 6,000 surrounded by several townships adding another approximately 9,000 to the immediate area. The principal employers are the Waupaca Foundry, King Veterans Home, Riverside Memorial Hospital, the Waupaca School System. Excellent library. It is a very arts oriented, tourist, and agricultural community half way between the Fox River Valley and Stevens Point/Plover. Rated #1 retirement place in WI. Active Farmers Market and organic farming. MREA is located 25 mi away.


School District

Waupaca School District consists of a high school with about 700 students plus a middle school, and two learning centers. It has multiple sport facilities, a performing arts center, two greenhouses. The high school has a 17.2 Kw solar array installed in 2011 and the middle school also has an array installed a number of years ago. There are over 250 staff members.


Community

The community is very active. Many opportunities available for community involvement. There is a Community Theatre, Art Show, Chorus, Art Center, Arts on the Square Festival, Community Garden, Winchester Academy which sponsors educational presentations more than 25 times a year. The library also offers many programs. Active community sustainability groups exist. Health education offered, both traditional and alternative. Many denominations of religious organizations/other diverse groups.
