Property Description

***SOLD****Off-grid relaxed elegance with possibly the finest views of any home in the entire desert southwest! Territorial house and guest house on 120 pristine acres. Solar electricity, well and septic mean no utility bills. Propane and back up generator have you covered. Open Western style with upscale finishes including granite and stainless kitchen, French doors, high beamed ceilings, spacious wrap around porches and wonderful light with views from every window. The property abuts state land in 2 places and is nestled at the foot of the mountains of the protected Santa Teresa Wilderness area. Located west of Pima AZ at 4300 ft. elevation the location provides a wonderful climate, beautiful in winter and a little cooler than the lower desert in summer. There is abundant wildlife and endless opportunity for solitude, horseback riding, hiking, ranching, exploring, and photography in an inspiring, beautiful setting. This is a home where you can begin a backpacking trip right out your front door. There is almost no way to do justice to this property in a written description. You would be hard pressed to find another property in the Southwest that combines such views, solitude, beauty, and remoteness as the setting for an extremely appealing house and guesthouse! As a "designated wilderness" area, the neighboring Santa Teresa Mountains are afforded some of the strongest protections assigned to public land. This assures they will remain a pristine wilderness for generations to come! In them are streams, springs, and a canyon of awesome beauty. A few miles down the road is Aravaipa Canyon where ancient petroglyphs and a beautiful stream await day or overnight hikers. A few miles to the southwest lie the Galiuro Mountains and Wilderness area, another fantastic and vast area for hiking, backpacking, etc. Views out the southeast windows and from the veranda are of Mt. Graham and the Pinaleno Mountains, the highest of Arizona's sky islands. To the west, very close to the house, loom the Santa Teresa Mountains. At night, below, over 15 miles to the east, you see the twinkle of lights of the communities of the Gila Valley. Look up and see the Milky Way and a vast array of stars. The area is one of great western history and legendry. Close by, for example, is the site of the Wham Paymaster Robbery of 1889, a famous stagecoach robbery immortalized in a painting by Frederick Remington. In addition, the Santa Teresa Mountains were part of the historic homeland of the Apache who have a long tradition of knowledge of the area. This is also the location of Holdout Canyon where Old West outlaws used to seek refuge after committing their shenanigans. Water for this property comes from a private well which pumps water into a 2,500 gallon cistern for storage. We can provide a 2017 report from a hydrogeologist concluding that the water supply is sound and that, historically, the underground fracture system appears to have had available water even during very dry periods.
