Basic wall design is over r-35. The insulated slab floor downstairs conserves heat and acts as a huge thermal mass that stabilizes the interior temperatures year around.
A water heater supplies hot water to the slab in winter/ an in-floor radiant heat system. A small gas log heater in the living room can be used as desired to quickly "heat things up".
Well-placed low-e windows, all with thermal drop-down shades for winter use, reduces the heat loss at night in winter.
Modern PEX water tubing is used in the house. All hot water lines were sheathed in insulated tubing to minimize heat loss on the way to the faucets. The bathrooms were stacked above each other, with the kitchen wall adjoining the downstairs one, to greatly reduce the length of the hot water runs.
Finally, the house is in Prescott, where the water quality is first rate, exceeded only by the fresh, clean air. Just look up at the stars here at night, awesomely clear and sharp viewing.
This fresh air is fine for cooling: large and small operable windows and a skylight at the top of the stairs do a fine job of moving the air up and out, or thru the top floor for comfortable sleeping! Four ceiling fans assist if desired, tho I have seldom used them.Property Description

A good view at the top of the street of Granite Mountain to the west. Sunsets can be great. Some trees around, a few taller ones, mostly junipers nearby of medium size.
