What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?
Heat is provided by the wood cut on our land. We burn around 4 cords/year. We installed a propane furnace in 2016 to complement the wood stove and keep the house warm if we are away for a few days.
Power is provided by 4 solar panels and 4 deep cycle batteries and an inverter. This can be improved and more panels/batteries can be installed, but this has been sufficient for our use. We have a small gas generator as a back up.
We use propane for the furnace, cooking stove/oven, fridge dryer and hot water heater. Everything else is solar. We get propane delivered twice a year for a total cost of $750 (CAN$1000). NO POWER/UTILITY BILLS!
Water from a drilled well (2013).Property Description

We also have a tiny camp on the property. 12 ft X 12 ft, one main room, one bedroom, wood stove. Perfect spot to relax, read, enjoy the woods. No road to get there, only a foot path, around 300 yards from the house. Surrounded by a small brook (last 2 pictures)Neighborhood Description
The main road is a country road with little traffic. A few houses are on this road. The closest neighbors are around half a mile away. From this road, you get on our laneway, a dirt road that goes only to our place. Just past our house the road turn into a 4-wheeler trail rarely used. We can go for weeks with no traffic at all, even in summer time. Our laneway is plowed by the government. School bus stops on the main road (400 yards). We have garbage pick-up, and a gas station/store 10 min away.Market Area
The closest city is Sussex, 30 minutes away. We have a Wal-Mart, several supermarkets, hardware stores, hospital, many doctors offices, pharmacies, dentists, restaurants, car dealerships, etc. All you need for your normal needs. The next city is Saint John, with a Costco, many restaurants, malls, big car dealerships, museums, theater, movie theaters, night clubs, etc. Saint John also has an international airport (YSJ). Numerous daily flights to Toronto, Montreal, etc.School District
We lived here with 2 kids going to school. Bus pick-up is at the end of our road (400 yards). Elementary, middle and high school at the same location around 10-minute drive from the house. French immersion is available (It's Canada!). Very quiet, country school. One of the best school of the province as well, both academically and safety wise.Community
The community is very rural. Our closest neighbors are up the road, with a few house half a mile away from us. People here are very friendly and respectful of your privacy. Most of our neighbors are in trades, carpenters, mechanics, or retired. The closest store is a Shell gas station, 10 minutes away. We are in the hills and there is no agriculture due to the cold climate. The only industry close by is forestry. No air pollution, no noise pollution or light pollution here!Location of Home or Land
