What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?

There is a trombe wall on the lower level. This is a passive solar structure that can be described as a narrow hallway with windows on the south side and a masonry wall on the back. The winter sun warms the masonry wall and the heatrnis trapped in the hallway. Often the temperature in the hallway exceeds 100 degrees, even on the coldest days. Opening the sliding doors into the lower level lets the heat circulate through the wide hallways and open staircases throughout the entire house. The roof overhangs are calculate so that they shade the trombe wall from the summer sun. Doors at either end of the hallway open to the outside letting breezes pass through in the summer.rnThe house is super insulated and solidly constructed.rnThe exterior walls are insulated 2X6 construction with an additional two inch insulating foam board and a vapor barrier on the inside, all covered by drywall. The attic is well ventilated with what looks to be 18 inches of fiberglass insulation. Two split units heat and cool the upper and lower levels. Thernfireplace is great! It doesn't smoke like so many do and it throws a lot of heat. There is also a wood stove in the basement. With 60 plus acres of woodland at your disposal, firewood is not a problem if you are so inclined. The bottom line is that the house is warm and draft free in the winter and cool in the summer.
