Property Description
This home is built entirely of earth, stone & wood. Earth floors in primary bedroom and
"meditation/yoga" room which has been used as an extra bedroom for guests. Included is a
queen air mattress, as well as temporary window coverings. All stone flooring is sealed with all
natural stone enhancers & sealers. All wood on ceilings, cabinets, walls, hand crafted doors &
kitchen floors are either recycled or sustainably harvested. Interior walls are covered in
American Clay products that are pigment dyed, hand mixed & applied over adobe mud walls.
Tires in the walls have all been naturally sealed underneath the mud infill. The south facing
windows provide you with a view of the San Juan mountain range with Mt. Sneffels as its
centerpiece as well as gathering heat for the passive heating system. Unique to Pleasant Valley
is a microclimate that provides sun on even snowy days. The home is an Earthship that uses
tires for the walls. The tires are packed with adobe mud then stacked alternately with the same
mud in between. Because of the 3 foot walls the house never goes below 60 degrees year
round. If additional heat is needed on cloudy days, a propane faux wood stove with a fan will
heat the home. A new solar array was added in 2024, that delivers 3.2 kilowatts of power that is
collected and stored in deep cycle batteries. In the event there are more than 6 sunless days
(which is rare), there is a generator which will automatically turn on for your backup power
needs. Included are 2 solar water collectors to heat the home’s water. The solar water tank is
mounted behind the roof attached to the solar collectors. In the event of no sun, there is a
backup on demand water heater. There are 4 cisterns of 1500 gallons each to collect the water.
The water from rain and snow is collected through three drains in the roof that are then fed into
the cisterns. The roof is coated in a non-toxic elastomeric membrane. The water collected is
first filtered through 2 filters—one washable to remove dust particles and a carbon based one to
remove VOCs (volatile organic compounds). The drinking water is further filtered under the
kitchen sink with 2 additional filters. Additionally a water system to treat the water and decrease
acidity was added in 2017. The water is fresher and cleaner than you will find anywhere. In the
event you are getting no water from nature, there is a hookup on the property to Tri-County
Water that can be fed into the system. This has never been needed in the home in the past 17
years of the current resident’s use. Garage and utility rooms have solatubes for natural light. Please scroll to the bottom for Video!
