Property Description

Emory Oak Farm is a beautiful home, artist retreat and private equine training and breeding facility set on 14.86 acres in the foothills of the Gila WIlderness in southwest New Mexico. Emory Oak specializes in Dressage and Jumping horses and the property is located in Silver City, New Mexico at 5900'. It is set up perfectly for the serious artist, competition rider or someone simply wanting an eco-friendly home or vacation retreat. Emory Oak consists of a passive solar 2600+ sq ft hacienda style home, 638 sq ft artist studio, 520sq ft woodworking studio, two custom built barns, paddocks and a full size state of the art ring. The home and equine facility are truly unique with custom details throughout. The home is designed by Douglass Architects out of San Francisco, CA. The floor plan is open yet intimate and was inspired by southwest design. Earth plaster walls, large vigas, beautiful gardens graced with native zeriscape planting, and an unbelievable 360' view gives you a sense of beauty, peace and solitude without sacrificing accessibility to interstate and urban areas. Passive solar heating and cooling as well as many more green features create a comfortable healthy living environment throughout the year. The whole equine facility is designed around the comfort and safety of Emory Oak's warmblood horses and the safety and convenience of the competition rider and horse. The barns, ring, and turnout areas are concentrated to the high use area, minimizing impact on the fragile desert landscape as well as maximizing aesthetics of the overall property. Some of the best native grass varieties are on our farm. The 6 stall barn was custom built by green builder Brian Myers of SunBear design+build. The six foot wide oversized doors coupled with the barns site orientation maximizes ventilation and passive solar heating, providing comfort, safety, and ease of use. The rough sawn timbers in the barn were sustainably harvested out of the burn areas in the Gila National Forest by a local sawmill in Reserve, NM. The 200' x300' split level ring has a 1% grade with a clay base and 2-3" crushed granite sand top layer. Whether you have 2 horses or six or just want a safe beautiful environment to keep your horse and ride in the National Forest, Emory Oak is for you. The emphasis on detail and the quality of craftsmanship creates a first class living and working environment for both the horses and people. This combined with green details and natural materials makes Emory Oak a true oasis in the desert southwest.
