What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?
Logs were processed right on the property.
Treated with Bora Care on 3 sides, but not the inside walls.
The logs were put together with 10inch lag screws, countersinking each one wiht a washer at the top. This was then filled with a special non-toxic caulk. This same caulk was used as a bead on the logs before putting them together. There is also two strips of 1/4 inch foam like material between each log. thwn th ehome was constructed, the builder made sure that ethe outside of the home had a lip that covers over the next log to avoid any water seepage.
The inside logs were sanded and a product made by Tried and True was applied. This is a linseed oil and beeswax hand rubbed finish.
The gables has R21 fiberglass insulation, but this is covered with house wrap on the outside and wood and plasterboard on the inside.
The roof structure was made from 2x12's for added insulation value, plywood, felt paper, and metal on the outside.
The ceilings have R35 fiberglass encased with 1x6 tongue & groove.
The majority of the wood on the ceiling and second floor was left natural, using Tried and True on window casings.
All othe rpaint that was applied is low voc paint.
Wallpaper is the prepasted vinyl type, which does not mold like the older paper used to when applied with the old paste.
Upstairs floors were left pine wood with a non-toxic sealer.
Downstairs floors are all ceramic. The cabinets throughout is vinyl covered and closets are the metal hung type.
The only pressboard is the counter top in th ekitche, and that is covered with formica except underneath.
We have radiant heat in the floor, which is much healthier than forced air. This has two options of fuel to use.
The sundeck is on the east side of the house and the covered porch is on the west side of the house. You get the morning sun on the suneck, but by late afternoon it is shaded. The upstairs shed dormer is on the west side which allow for passive slaor heat in the home during winter months.Property Description
