The walls are constructed from breathable strawbale walls with plaster and stucco. Due to the insulating properties of the strawbales, the home can be heated using less energy and it also stays cool in summer. Roughly 99% of our electrical needs are provided by solar power. The home also features wood, bamboo and tile flooring along with some carpeting. The Cistern collects rain water that supplies water for watering the plants.

Property Description

The oversized Master Bedroom has a vaulted ceiling, fireplace, his and hers complete bathrooms and walk-in closets. Outside the Master Bedroom is a hot tub. The two additional bedrooms are spacious and have a sizeable bathroom (Shower over Tub) connecting the rooms. The floors are made of teak, pecan, bamboo tile and some carpet. The doors are made of solid Alder. The forced air heater, water heater and stove top use propane as does the outdoor barbeque. The house’s water is on a private mutual well. The house has a water filtering system and softener.
The substantial three car garage also has a 460 sq. ft. bonus room.
Adjacent to the house, there is an additional 16’ x 24’ strawbale building that was built for raising pheasants, but was never used for that purpose. There is also a large walk-in area for storage under the house.
The elk rated fenced in orchard has 15 assorted fruit trees, and raised vegetable beds. Behind the home you will find a separate vegetable garden with raised vegetable beds and flower garden. The property also includes a seasonal pond that fills in winter and is dry in summer. The property is equipped with a 1500+ gallon cistern that collects the roof water and can be used for watering plants.

Corral de Tierra is a small rural community close to many year round activities. Ten minutes away is Fort Ord National Monument. It has hiking and horse trails . Nearby Carmel Valley has world famous wineries and steelhead fishing. To the west Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary which is ideal for scuba diving, whale watching, surfing, and fishing. Pebble Beach is a great destination for golfing, and is home to 17 Mile Drive. Down the coast from Pebble Beach, Big Sur offers hiking, the Big Sur Marathon and the most beautiful coastline. To the north Moss Landing is great for Salmon fishing, and whale watching. Right next to Moss Landing is Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Sanctuary where you can go kayaking, and view the abundant marine, land, and avian wildlife. With an hour car ride you can be in Santa Cruz with its internationally known Boardwalk. Silicon Valley, the new home of the San Francisco 49ers, starting in 2014 is only one and half hours away.
