What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?

Solar energy more than supplies our needs. Geothermal heat pump supplies heating and cooling almost for nothing.

Property Description

Secluded (but not remote) ten acres with thoughtful 1800 sq ft custom home and no visible neighbors. Home is powered by 6 kW ground-mount PV solar array under transferable net-metering agreement with PGE. Heating and cooling provided by extremely efficient geothermal heat pump. Water supplied by two developed springs; waste handled by well-maintained septic system. House includes open plan living/dining/kitchen, large deck, two bathrooms, three bedrooms, office/hobby/guest room, mudroom, and separate-entrance exercise/storage room. Bamboo flooring and wood trim throughout. In addition, property has: Approx. 500 sq ft barn/workshop with approx. 800 sq ft attached covered storage for equipment/wood; two car attached carport, and large fenced yard. Six acres under timber deferral, annual taxes approx. $2,300, in Polk County and Perrydale School District. This property is secluded but just 22.5 miles to both Salem and McMinnville. You can walk to Mill Creek across the road, and the county park just upstream. You can walk for miles following Mill Creek up logging roads. The home is a joy to live in. The upgrades and remodels and additions have turned it into a custom showcase with lots of light and wood. There is a shop with generous covered storage. There are no visible neighbors (and you can't see the house from the road). The 6 kW solar system generates our power, and heating and cooling are provided almost for free by a geothermal heat pump. I've lived here for over 44 years, my husband for 29. We are sorry to leave, but age is telling us it's time. Living here has been a precious centerpiece to my life.

Neighborhood Description

We are on a rural road with approximately 13 households. The road ends South of us about a mile and a half. We have no visible neighbors; closest house is invisible across the road. More deer than people.

Market Area

Nearest business is in Dallas, 13 miles away. We go to McMinnville (22.5 miles) for most things; to Salem (also 22.5 miles) for medical care. Good restaurants in both cities.

School District

Perrydale School District has a good reputation, and the school bus services our address. (We have not had personal experience with the district.)

Community

Our mailing address is Sheridan, which is a small town about 9 miles away. We generally only go there for the best auto service around.
