Our Green and Solar Cottage is a sustainable, green, solar home that uses traditional and state-of-the-art principles and has very low monthly operating expenses. Solar evacuated tubes on the roof heat up the domestic hot water tank as well as the radiant tubes on the first and second floor. Photovoltaic panels that cleverly act as a roof over the outside deck, generate electricity that is pumped back in to the grid. The result is an annual heating bill that does not exceed 1,200.00 per year. The Designer took great care to incorporate all the elements of a comfortable, elegant home in to this design, with a wonderful kitchen and attractive moldings and woodwork. The home is situated on a rural piece of property and overlooks a vernal pond that is home to many species of birds, frogs and wildlife.
Solar heat and hot water eliminate the use of fossil fuels and the home is constructed from Structurally Insulated Panels that are constructed using recycled materials and have a high R value for energy efficiency. Ceiling can lights use flourescent bulbs and Anderson windows are highly insulated as well. Azek trim is maintenance free.
Our Solar cottage is located in a neighborhood of country homes, small farms, some with horses. Across the street is Weetamoo Woods, 500+ acres of protected walking trails that are dog and horse friendly, where hunting is prohibited. There are many beautiful, sandy beaches to choose from as well as the Sakonnet River. The home is 1/2 mile away from Tiverton Four Corners, a wonderful, historic country settlement of boutique shops and restaurants.
